Click to call allows you to initiate a web-based dialing application to instantly open a communication session with another party simply by clicking on a image or link. This is a fast easy way to connect without having to look up phone numbers, and also speeds up the process, allowing you to easily connect with anyone in or out of your VoIP network.

A simple Firefox extension can turn any phone number in any webpage into a link. When you mouse over the phone number, it will light up; simply click to start the connection process. Basically, you initiate the call right from your browser to a call setup API. The API calls your desk phone, and when you pick it up, the outgoing call automatically dials through to the number you clicked on in your browser. Since the API handles the entire process, it is accessible from both the server and client side.

A plugin can also allow smooth Microsoft Outlook Integration. You can click to call your contacts, set up calls from remote locations, and create a ’speed dial’ call list of your most important contacts using any 10-digit number right in Outlook. Your toolbar and drop down menus can be used to easily sort your contacts, and the calls placed ring your phone first, then the party you are trying to reach. Simply include phone numbers in your Contact Lists to easily click and call them any time, or dial numbers not in your list and use the dial function to get through.

A unified communications UI can show you if the team member you need to reach is at their desk. Simply check their status – a green icon means they are ready to accept a call, orange tells you they are currently on a call, and grey means they are either away from their desk or in ‘Do not disturb’ mode. You can access this system from any location, or even initiate calls from numerous sites, making conferencing much easier and allowing you to include team members no matter where they are currently stationed.

You can also click to call phone numbers sent via email or IM – again, the Firefox extension turns all phone numbers into a clickable link to easily connect calls. This is great for customers who desire a quick call back – just add a call button to your website, and clients can enter their phone number for you to reach them at. The system lets you know when a call is being requested, and you can connect with your customer in real time. This can greatly increase response time and customer satisfaction.

Using click to call technology can not only streamline your communications, it can make sharing the workload easier and cut the amount of time spent searching for contact numbers by a substantial margin.
