It is without a doubt that many of us could not fully function without a reliable Internet connection based on how our economy is structured. There is a limitless amount of activity and media available at our fingertips, but without high-speed Internet service, we might be waiting quite a while to appreciate it.

Cable Internet and DSL are the mainstream sources for high-speed Internet connectivity, but even their reach has limits. There are rural areas of the country that have yet to be reached by the cable and phone companies in terms of Internet service. An alternative to DSL and cable Internet is satellite Internet.

In most rural areas the only Internet service connection available to anyone is dial-up connectivity. This might have been the only means of an ISP in the 1990′s, but dial-up has become a thing of the past to most metro Internet users today. There is hope for these rural customers, though. Satellite Internet technology has provided a means to acquire a steady signal and high-speed connection.

Satellite Internet has been buzzing up among those that have experienced the advantages of having consistent and readily available high-speed Internet service connectivity. Much like major cable TV services, cable Internet has not reached some places in the country and in order to get the most of their television options they have gone with companies like DIRECTV or Dish Network.

There are many companies that are offering this sought after service to folks who need it, but a couple of the more famous names in the business are WildBlue and HughesNet. These are not the only two Satellite Internet companies, but since they are among the top companies you are most likely to find the best priced deals in satellite broadband.

When comparing Satellite to DSL and cable high-speed Internet, satellite service will likely cost you more per month. This is mainly caused by supply and demand. People do not have other options for high-speed, and they are willing to pay a little more for the added speed to their Internet connection. The other part is the new technology present. Satellite Internet is a fairly new technology, and much like any other new technology on the market, you have to pay to be among the first to use it.

Satellite installation will more than likely cost more too, but this is mainly because there is more work involved. While the cable company or phone guy has to just plug and play, satellite Internet installers have to mount a dish to pick up the signal, and move it to its most line of sight location. This can be time consuming for all involved, but worth it in the end when all is said and done.

Speaking in dollar amounts, a Satellite installation will cost you roughly a couple hundred dollars or more, or it could even be waived on a term contract. It is so high because you have to purchase the equipment outright or lease it. This is similar to satellite television in that they both require you to purchase the dish or rent it. The only difference is that with television, you generally have the option to amortize the equipment cost up over the term of your service rather than requiring you to buy it immediately, depending on if there is a promotion or not.

More than likely you can find a good deal of benefits with satellite Internet if you have no other choices. If you have alternative high-speed Internet options than this, you will generally save more dollars going with DSL or cable Internet set up. If you do not have any of these options, you should definitely take advantage of the latest in high-speed surfing technology.
