    The Power of Email Marketing

As a small business web site designer I have spent most of my time focusing on how to turn prospects into buyers using the web. For more information please visit http://www.rocketsearchmarketing.com.

There are some statistics that show it takes nine follow-up contacts to make a sale. That means on average a customer sees a billboard, a commercial, or reads an article about your service nine times before they are ready to make a purchase. Let’s face it, this statistic works out for larger companies like Pepsi and Coca-Cola where a customer sees an ad or commercial multiple times. However, smaller businesses need to make the most of their advertising budget.

Major Internet players such as Yahoo, CNN, Google, YouTube and Facebook all have systems and features in place to reach their customers. Whether it be RSS feeds or e-mail reminders of updates to your account. The major Internet players know they have to keep their business front of you. They continually let you know what new features they have and how they benefit you.

Let’s look a quick scenario: what if for the next year you collect 20 emaill addresses of your customers every month through your website and store them in your opt-in e-mail marketing distribution list. Every week or every two weeks you send an e-mail newsletter letting them know about new products and features to your existing products. After one year your list would be approximately 240 people, actually they would be targeted customers who have expressed an interest to say, “I’m interested in information about your products.” What if you have the ability to contact them at the click of a button? What if you had the ability to contact 240 of the your best customers with the click of a button to let them know about a new product, a weekend sale or an upcoming event? Or maybe, you want to build some customer loyalty and just let them know how much you appreciate their business.

Notice, this is free internet advertising at this point. You no longer have to pay for new leads. This is one of the key benefits to running a successful online business. Once you have created an ocean of hungry fish and you know how to get in touch with them on a regular basis you can begin building your business relationship with the prospect. It may take some of your prospects six to twelve months to come around, but you will be able to sale and resale for free with this e-mail marketing list.

Eventually the hope is that your list will grow to 500 to 1000 targeted customers. You may be able to completely erase your advertising budget.
